A cross-sectional study of 360 equitably selected undergraduate female students (aged 16-30 years) across six (6) faculties participated in the study. A 20 item self-structured instrument titled “University Students Emotional Eating and Alimentary Unhealthiness Scale” (USEEAUS) was used for the collection of data analyzed using mean, standard deviation and Pearson Product Moment Correlation (PPMC). The study revealed that non-adherence to meal schedules ( =3.72 & r = 0.830), unhealthy dietary pattern ( =3.69 & r = 0.835), skipping breakfast ( =3.73 & r = 0.830), and poor dieting behaviour ( =3.66 & r = 0.838) positively and very strongly correlated with the alimentary-unhealthiness among female students in Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Rivers State. The study recommended that Home Economics, Hospitality and Tourism Department should organize sensitization programmes aimed at helping to raise awareness on the importance of adhering to meal schedules to female students’ agility, stamina and fitness towards effectively attending lectures and successful accomplishing the goal of university education. 7 Title: INDIVIDUAL AUTONOMY IN J. S. MILL’S PHILOSOPHY: EXAMINING GESTATIONAL SURROGACY IN ASSISTED REPRODUCTION
Author: EZE-OSI, BLESSING CHIGOZI AND PROF. LUCKY AKARUESE
Abstract: The argument about personal autonomy has always been, and will remain at the centre of discussions on reproduction. Reproduction being central to the continuity of every specie, could be seen as one of the motivating factors for the continuous development of technologies aimed at tackling any health condition that threatens this ability. The emergence of In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) technology, gave rise to a new form of assisted reproduction known as gestational surrogacy. This has received heated arguments regarding the extent to which reproductive autonomy is morally permissible in this form of assisted reproduction. The aim of this work is to examine the concept of autonomy in J.S Mill’s thought, focusing on its relevance to the limit of reproductive autonomy morally permissible in gestational surrogacy. Having established that ‘harm’ to another individual or the society is the only reason the society or government is permitted to interfere with the liberty of an individual adult in Mill’s thought, this work will argue that individual autonomy in J.S. Mill’s thought places no limit to the act of gestational surrogacy in this aspect of reproductive autonomy. Author: IBIBUARY EDITH IWARIMIE JAJA AND MARTHA IJOK ADIBE NJOKU
Abstract: The studys objectives were to look at Biology students academic performance in the Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area of Rivers State, Nigeria, as well as student abilities and class sizes. For the investigation, a quasi-experimental design was adopted. To direct the investigation, two research questions and two hypotheses were developed. A total of 1,230 senior secondary 2 pupils from Opobo/Nkoro LGA made up the studys population, and 110 senior secondary 2 students made up the sample. Out of the three public secondary schools in the study region, two secondary schools were chosen using the purposive sample approach, and two intact science classrooms delivering Biology with class sizes of 35 and 75 were also chosen. The Biology Achievement Test (BAT) was the tool utilized to collect the data. Pilot testing and validation were done on this instrument. Using the Kuder-Richardson-20 formula, a dependability coefficient of 0.68 was achieved. While hypotheses were tested using Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA) at the 0.05 level of significance, research issues were addressed utilizing the mean and standard deviation. The studys conclusions demonstrated a noteworthy disparity in the academic achievement of gifted and low ability biology students in big and small classrooms. In small class sizes, there is a notable disparity in the academic achievement of low ability pupils taught biology. Among other things, it was suggested that governments and policymakers make sure that more classrooms are constructed and that classes should not have more than 35 kids. The government is urging the Parent Teacher Association (PTA), philanthropists, and other charity organizations to support its efforts to improve secondary school student performance.
