Author: Enofe, A. O, PhD., Edogiawerie, O.U, Ombu,A & Imonitie, O.M
Abstract: This study attempted to ascertain the role of forensic accounting in reducing or preventing white collar crime. A survey research design was adopted in the study and a sample of 90 respondents was taken from diverse groups of private and public employment, internal and external auditors, as well as the top management staff which formed the study population. The statistical tool employed was SPSS which was used to analyze the bio-data, while ordinary least square (OLS) through the use of Eviews was used to analyze the responses from respondents. The study found that forensic accounting (FOR) has a negative but insignificant relationship with the dependent variable WCC. Also, while internal control system (ICS) and fraud auditing (FA) both had positive relationship with WCC, only ICS positive relationship with WCC is significant while FA is not significant. The study recommended that white-collar criminals should be punished as harshly, or harsher than violent criminals. This will deter others from indulging in such illicit acts. This will also in a way pacify the victims that suffer greatly from such acts. Keywords: Forensic accounting, internal control system, Fraud auditing, White collar crime theory. View

7 Title: MACRO ECONOMIC AGGREGATES IN A DEVELOPING ECONOMY THE NIGERIAN EXPERIENCE 1981 TO 2015.pdf
Author: Michael Ngei Mpia, PhD. & Echie, Goodluck Owakwe
Abstract: The study examines the impact of macro-economic aggregates in a developing economy for 35years (1981 to 2015). We applied vector auto regression and co-integration model of analysis in this study. The macro-economic variables that were considered are inflation and interest rates, money supply and domestic debt while GDP was applied as proxy for a developing economy. The results from ADF indicates that the specification includes a constant which is viewed to be plausible on all the variables. The Johansen cointegration test reveals that the trace and max eigenvalue statistic fails to reject the series of at most 1 cointegrating relationship at conventional level.  Furthermore, the major source of variation in GDP is own shock. Based on the above, the monetary authorities should be proactive on certain key policies on how to improve the economy because every policy taken that will bring about such an improvement is felt through the GDP. Keywords: Inflation rate, interest rate, money supply, domestic debt, GDP, economy. Adjustment. View
8 Title: MANAGEMENT TECHNIQUES OF PUBLIC UNIVERSITIES IN THE NIGER DELTA REGION IMPLICATIONS FOR UNIVERSITY ADMINISTRATION IN NIGERIA.pdf
Author: ROBERT-OKAH, I. PhD.
Abstract: The study examined the management techniques of public universities in the Niger Delta Region: Implications for university administration in Nigeria. The design for the study was a descriptive survey. A sample of 350 faculty and administrative staff (152 and 298 from State and Federal Universities) which represented 43.4% and 85.1% was selected through the stratified random sampling techniques in four (4) faculties of education, management sciences, social sciences and humanities. Mean, standard deviation   and rank order were used to answer five research questions while t-test was used to test three null hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. Result revealed that Management By Objectives (MBO), Total Quality Management (TQM) and Team Management (TM) were the techniques of management preferable to public universities in the Niger Delta Region. t-test analysis of three null hypotheses indicated that they were all retained (not rejected). The study concluded that while MBO, TQM and TM were preferable to public universities in the NDR, PERT, PPBS and TSAT were not due to inadequate infrastructure to apply them. The following among others were therefore recommended; university administrators should be properly trained in management techniques: seminars, workshops and conferences should be regularly organized for university managers on techniques of management: adequate funding and infrastructure should be provided for better application of PERT, PPBS and TSAT and appointments into university management should take cognizant of qualifications in techniques of management. 9 Title: RELEVANCE AND APPLICATION OF MULTIVARIATE STATISTICAL TECHNIQUES IN CONTEMPORARY BUSINESS MANAGEMENT RESEARCH A STRATEGIC DISCOURSE.pdf
Author: John E. Chikwe, PhD. & Ibekwe Wechie
Abstract: The study strategically explored various multivariate statistical techniques in contemporary business management research. Multivariate statistical techniques and analysis refer to a group of statistical techniques often put in use simultaneously to analyze three or more variables. The classification is categorized into dependency and interdependency assumptions. Whereas in dependency techniques, both dependent and independent variables exist, while in interdependency assumption, no single variable or group of variables is defined as being dependent or independent. The dependency techniques include: Multiple regression analysis, Discriminant analysis, Multiple analysis of variance (MANOVA) and Canonical analysis; while the independency in brevity is made up of: Factor analysis, Cluster analysis and Multidimensional scaling. In multivariate statistical techniques analysis, data could also be viewed and measured by ratio or interval scale i.e. being metric and interdependency techniques adopted. On the other hand, a nonmetric measure scale refers to ordinal and nominal, and dependency techniques assumptions come to play. In each case, investigations into their techniques usefulness, relevancy and adoption in contemporary business management research were also strategically explored in our present study and possible recommendations advanced. Key words: Multivariate Statistical Techniques; Dependency Techniques; Independency Techniques; Metric Techniques; Nonmetric Techniques; Strategic Review; Business Management Research. View

11 Title: AGILE MARKETING FOR ORGANIZATIONAL RESILIENCE IN A DYNAMIC BUSINESS ENVIRONMENT A THEORETICAL REFLECTION.pdf
Author: Ateke, Brown Walter & Nadube, Paul Meeting, PhD.
Abstract: To survive. To thrive. To endure. These are cardinal objectives of firms; and all business firms strive to accomplish them. However, it is observed that whereas some organizations spring up and remain in the business landscape for several years, others come up and die away after a very short period of time. The aim of this paper is to advance agile marketing as a requirement for organizational resilience in the dynamic business environment. The paper, through an extensive review if literature found that, indeed, most proactive firms adopt agile marketing practices and processes to better their lot under the rapidly changing business conditions and also that agile principles are needed if firms must understand and respond to the demands of the environment speedily and seamlessly. The paper thus concluded that agile marketing enables firms to react promptly to changes in environmental conditions and enhances their competitiveness; and recommends that contemporary business firms should invest more in their environmental scanning efforts in order to be continually updated on the changes occurring in their environment so that they will be better placed to respond them. Keywords: Agile marketing, dynamic business environment, competition, organizational resilience. View
12 Title: POST-WAR MARGINALIZATION AND WOMEN ENTREPRENEURSHIP IN NIGERIA.pdf
Author: EKE VERONICA
Abstract: Gendered literature, including scholarly articles, novels and poems, have consistently drawn attention to the fact that gender issues (especially women’s role and plights) during the 30 month Nigerian civil war (July 1967 – January 1970) have been under-reported and neglected in the academic firmament while enthroning masculinity of the war. Literature is replete with the fact that women’s economic roles during the war were both complementary and supplementary, as sustained the men in the war fronts. However, patriarchy-based economic marginalization has continued to envelop Nigerian women fifty years after war. This literature-based paper is poised to examine post-war marginalization and women entrepreneurship in Nigeria. Predicated upon social resilience theory, the paper attempts to unmask the significant role of women entrepreneurship as a panacea for post-war gender marginalization. It also examines challenges of women entrepreneurship and demands for successful women entrepreneurship. Far-reaching recommendations are also discussed. Keywords: Nigerian Civil War, post-war marginalization, social resilience, women entrepreneurship. View
13 Title: UNDERSTANDING AND MANAGING DEFENSIVE STRATEGIES THE PANACEA TO SURVIVAL AND SUSTAINABILITY OF OIL AND GAS COMPANIES IN NIGERIA.pdf
Author: JOHN E. CHIKWE, PhD.
Abstract: This paper takes a random walk through the defensive strategies relevant literature by examining among other issues, the panacea to oil and gas companies survival and sustainability in Nigeria. Defensive strategies help much to fortify a company’s competitive position, as well as protecting its important valuable resources capabilities from imitation, and sustain the competitive advantage it does have. The adoption of different types of retrenchment strategies as this paper explored, are attempts to strategically regain control of ailing oil and gas companies. Divestiture (divestment) strategies have also been observed to be part of defensive strategies often adopted in order to rid a weak organization of unprofitable ventures. Divestiture has become a popular defensive strategy that will guide oil and gas to focus attention on their core and profitable businesses. Other types of defensive strategies such as turnaround, liquidation, captive company and abandonment strategies which oil and gas companies can adopt for their survival and sustainability were also explored. The paper therefore, conclude and recommends amongst others that, oil and gas companies in Nigeria should pay specific attention to feasible defensive strategies, in order to ensure the survival and sustainability of organizational objectives and mission. Key words: Defensive strategies; Oil and Gas Companies; Survival; Sustainability; Panacea; Divestment (Divestiture) Strategies; Competitive Advantage; Retrenchment Strategies. View
14 Title: EFFECT OF CORPORATE GOVERNANCE MECHANISMS ON PERFORMANCE OF NON-FINANCIAL FIRMS IN NIGERIA.pdf
Author: ABRAHAM OKETOOYIN GBADEBO
Abstract: The study examined the effect of corporate governance mechanisms on performance of non-financial firms in Nigeria. Secondary data collected from published accounts were analysed with (random effects and fixed effects) using panel regression models through the use of STATA 14 software. Thirty four ten (34) non-financial listed firms on the Nigeria Stock Exchange were selected using the purposive sampling technique. The study covered the period 1990 to 2015. Independent variables used were board size; outside board directors, directors shareholding; independent audit committee, block holding; leverage and firm size while return on equity was adopted as dependent indicator. Findings from the study revealed that some corporate governance mechanisms (leverage; enlarged board size) have positive significant relationship on firm performance, while others (directors’ shareholding; block holding) have negative significant link with firms’ performance. However some corporate governance indicators (outside board directors; independent audit committee; firm size) do not have significant correlation with performance of the non-financial firms in Nigeria. Hence, the study recommends that firms should maintain a maximum of twelve directors (insiders and outsiders) who must be professionally qualified to perform oversight functions in order to enhance firm performance. The insider directors should also be encouraged to procure sizeable units of company’s shares so as to reduce the agency cost.  Keywords: Corporate Governance Mechanisms, Firm Performance. View

20 Title: THE EFFECT OF FINANCIAL DEEPENING ON STOCK PRICES IN NIGERIA EVIDENCE FROM VAR.pdf
Author: Chikezie Benedicta Chinyere, Amadi Chukwudi Onyere & Oriko Bonaventure Ofasia
Abstract: This paper seeks to determine the impact of financial deepening on stock prices in Nigeria from 1995:01 to 2016:06 using a VAR approach. The variables are monthly closing prices of the NSE-ASI, GDP and CPS/GDP. The results indicate that although, the data are all differenced stationary, there is no evidence of cointegrating relations between the variables. When unrestricted VAR(1) is estimated, the coefficients are found to be stable as all VAR roots lie inside the unit circle. The Granger causality test suggest evidence of a bidirectional feedback causality between stock prices and credit to private sector as a ratio of GDP, and weak unidirectional causality from stock prices to money supply as a ratio of GDP. The results suggest that stock prices are positively related to GDP but negatively related GDP.  However, while the effect ofGDP is significant, the effects of GDP is insignificant. Finally, in agreement with several studies, own shocks explain almost all of the error variances in stock prices. The study, therefore, recommends that the Nigerian monetary authorities should give more serious attention to credit supply instruments than those of money supply, and this should be balanced with other macroeconomic variables if any meaningful changes in the stock market can be induced. Keywords: Financial deepening, stock prices.  View
