1 Title: ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY INFORMATION REPORTING AND FIRM FINANCIAL PERFORMANCE.pdf
Author: EGOLUM, PRISCILLA UCHENNA
Abstract: Abstract The key objective of this study is to critically examine the relationship between environmental sustainability information reporting and firm financial performance in Nigeria. Specifically, this study is poised towards accessing vital measures of environmental sustainability reporting by taking samples (12 oil and gas firms) listed on the floor of the Nigerian stock exchange market for the period between 2007 and 2018. Proxies employed to represent environmental sustainability reporting which were also considered as independent variables are; bio-diversity and water disclosure and environmental sustainability protection expenditure disclosure while firm performance employed as dependent variable is proxied with accounting performance measure of return on total asset wit firm leverage as a control variable. In this study, ordinary least square regression analyses technique is been employed to evaluate the data set that were collated from annual financial reports of the sampled oil and gas listed firms. Result from the regression analyses suggest that environmental sustainability protection expenditure disclosure is negatively related with firm performance which implies that if firm allows environmental expenditure to crowd out other productive investments for innovation and efficiency improvement, it reduces the firm’s potential to earn profit. Therefore, it is recommended that policies that will enhance research and development capabilities should be adopted. Adoption of such policies will enable the firm find efficient ways of utilizing raw materials thus reduce costs associated with raw materials and waste disposal. Such efforts can further lead the firm to find more productive ways to convert waste into saleable products for increased performance. View
2 Title: MACROECONOMIC VARIABLES RESPONSE TO OIL PRICE SHOCKS IN NIGERIA.pdf
Author: Esther O. Lawal PhD. & Temitope M. Omosuyi
Abstract: Abstract The Nigerian economy is highly vulnerable to fluctuations in the international price of crude oil. This is due to the fact that the economy depends majorly (80%) on the income from crude oil for its foreign earnings because oil as a commodity plays a central role in the economic activities of the nation. This study analyzed the dynamic response of macroeconomic variables to oil price shocks in Nigeria from 1985Q1-2018Q4. The data were analyzed using Structural Vector Autoregressive (SVAR) technique to estimate the response of macroeconomic variables to oil price shocks. The result of the impulse response function and variance decomposition analysis showed that output, inflation rate, exchange rate, interest rate, stock prices and unemployment rate significantly respond to oil price shocks in Nigeria. The implication of this is that the Nigerian economy is significantly affected by external shocks. The study, therefore, recommends that effective management of oil wealth such as investment in productive economic activities that would provide employment, drive economic growth is essential in the bid to maintain macroeconomic stability in an oil rich economy like Nigeria. Author: Wosu, Emma O. PhD., Nyone, Clifford B. PhD., Abbey-Kalio, B. PhD. & Akpasi, Stanley R. (ESQ)
Abstract: Abstract The objective of the study was to examine the importance of flexible working arrangements on performance of business organizations in a competitive and complex environment of business, such as the recent Covid-19 pandemic. The period of Covid-19 lockdown and stay at home has brought about unbearable loss of jobs by employees, standstill of productivity and loss of profit by business organizations. The problems of high employee turnover and low productivity and profitability could be attributed to rigidity and inflexibility working arrangement by organizations. The study concluded that Tele-working, Tele-commuting, and Flexi-time as forms of workplace flexibility have positive relationship with organizational performance. Therefore, the study recommended that management should encourage teleworking as it will enhance productivity and employee retention since employees can work from any location with the use of technology. Management should promote telecommuting which is an arrangement for employees to work from home, hence it will enhance work-life balance and productivity. Also, management should emphasis on flexi-time which allows employees on full-time employment to discretionarily fix the convenient period to start and finish work, as it will enhance work-life balance and productivity. The researchers and the regulators agree that the idea of PS is very important while they disagree on how to define, apply and assess PS. From the definition and the application reviewed, it is very hard to identify audit flaws as a lack of scepticism. 9 Title: ORGANIZATIONAL CULTURE AND EMPLOYEES’ COMMITMENT IN MODERN ORGANIZATIONS.pdf
Author: ANIETIE E. EKANG, PhD
Abstract: Abstract After examining organizational culture and employees’ commitment in organizations, this paper concludes by asserting that employees’ commitment to organizational goals and objectives will be impossible in the face of multitudinous and variegated challenges facing workers such as inability to pay his/her bills, meet up societal expectation of owning a house, car, pay children school fees and other social demands. Employees that can meet the above needs, and are well treated by the organization are likely to be committed employees. The paper therefore recommends that employment in organizations should be based on merit. This is so because any employee or staff that comes into organizations climbing on the back of any person will almost always be loyal and show commitment to that person and not to the organization as a whole.
